Professional underground locating

Our Services

Ground Penetrating Radar

Adds another level of capability to traditional underground locating methods, as well as the ability to locate otherwise hard-to-find objects.

Concrete Penetrating Radar

Locate rebar and conduit within concrete prior to cutting or coring, and inspect for voids or other defects.

Pipe Inspection Camera

Inspect pipes for damage and obstruction. Pinpoints exact location of the issue to minimize the amount of excavation required.

Private Utility Locating

Locate and clearly mark privately owned underground utilities to prevent damage or injury.

Ground Fault Locating

Locate and pinpoint faults in underground cables.

Underground Mapping

Create 3 dimensional underground maps using ground penetrating radar data.

Work like a pro…

Southwest Radar utilizes state-of-the-art electromagnetic and penetrating radar equipment, as well as inspection cameras and ground-fault locating equipment, to provide a range of services to homeowners, contractors, municipalities, and industrial companies. Southwest Radar, LLC provides a critical service to its customers in locating and clearly identifying buried wires, pipes, lines, tanks, and other features to prevent expensive damage or personal injury from the inadvertent contacting of those items while digging or drilling.

While most utility locating companies use electromagnetic locating equipment to detect and identify buried objects, Southwest Radar adds Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to its equipment inventory. GPR is a device that emits radio waves which are tuned to penetrate the ground, then measures the return signal from those waves and generates a visual representation of the underground objects beneath it. The GPR can operate at depths up to 15 feet, depending on soil conditions, and provides the user with another level of detection and accuracy when locating buried objects. Additionally, the GPR and its associated software is capable of producing comprehensive underground maps that are layered and GPS associated.

In addition to GPR, we also utilize a Concrete Penetrating Radar (CPR) unit. The CPR is capable of scanning concrete to locate voids, conduit, rebar, and other encased items. CPR scanning is useful when the need exists for sawing, drilling, or otherwise compromising the concrete structure, as well as for inspecting concrete for defect or sufficiency.

Other services provided by Southwest Radar include pipe inspections via remote camera, and ground fault locating.

The average cost to repair an inadvertent utility strike is $56,000. In addition to expense, the danger of personal injury or death exists in cases where the strike contacts high voltage lines, high pressure lines, combustibles, or other hazardous materials. Southwest Radar provides a measure of protection against these mishaps through the location and clear marking of underground objects.
